Is this board (Board index » Dot-bit Project » General Discussion) the official place to learn about mandatory namecoind client upgrades? I can see no "official announcements" forum. Maybe a mailing list? Reddit /r/Namecoin announcements?

Will there ever be an upgrade to the client software that makes old namecoins invalid for those that forgot to upgrade their client in a reasonable time? Is the same true for bitcoins and the bitcoin client?

Not that I'm aware of since the "coins" are just entries in the block-chain database. At some point in the far future maybe access to transacting coins will be changed by way of upgrading the public-private key pair cryptography, backward compatability would be left on by default in this scenario I'd imagine. (This is all also true for bitcoin).

Thanks for confirming what I thought would probably be the case. Do you know if there is a mailing list one could subscribe to in case a bug is found, and/or a new namecoind/bitcoind version is announced?

Small update with following commits (based on commit 97c693a6af3b7896ddfa) for linux releases (updated on homepage) :
- Fix name_debug & name_debug1 RPC methods (show right in the help + description)
- Verify transfer address on name_update (avoid people losing domains on name_update...)

So how much faster/less costly will domains be after block 24,000? Is there a graph or some code we can view?

Also effective at block 24000, the decline in network fees will speed up by a factor of 4

If it were me, I would have titled it: You MUST update to Namecoin client to v0.3.21.90 before block 24,000!!!

Is that even correct, however? Is that what we are required to do? Update to that release before 24k? Is that what this thread is saying?
