Windows install problem

When I try to run namecoind, I get an error telling me that I need to create the bitcoin.conf file with my information in the namecoin folder. But it is already there, as a read only file, just like it asks for. Any help?

Well, I might have spoke prematurely. My bitcoin.conf file was actually a bitcoin.conf.txt file. I was careful not to do that, but apparently not careful enough.

Anyway, now when I run namecoind, the cursor goes down a row than just sits there. If I open a new cmd prompt, I do namecoind gethashespersec and it tells me I'm mining at 0. Hmm...

For the next time you use notepad for creating a non .txt file :
- when you type the filename to save to, surround it with " like that : "bitcoin.conf". that way, it won't add .txt automatically.

If you are mining with an external program (recommended), namecoin should report 0.

i'm having the same problem, when i start namecoind the prompt just stand there flashing and i get no terminal. my config file is alright and on the right place, anything i'm missing?

Type other commands in a new terminal.

not sure what you mean by that, because if i try to open a new one it says namecoind is already running.

Open up a new command prompt window
Enter "cd (namecoind.exe file path)"
Enter commands "namecoind (command)"
Try "namecoind help" to see the commands
