Re: implications of merged mining / shared blockchain

Maybe making the change to merged mining earlier can solve the problem too? I don't really know how these checkpoints work. If you run a client with a checkpoint at block 18932 (example) it will not recognise any attempt to rewrite blocks prior to 18932. This will avoid confusion, but it won't ensu...

Re: I will do my best to get miners, what's plan B?

If you destroy things it means people have a right to destroy what you have as well, should they have enough power to do so. Now, now. This kind of threat is no way to answer a good suggestion. Davinci, if you, Nodemaster, and doublec all start using a lockin-enabled client such as zamgo's we'll be...

Re: Testnet Merged Mining Block Number

Why is it so hard to simply disallow a master-chain block from "vouching for" more than one block in each aux chain? :/ Mhmm, If I understand it correctly this might be undesirable because it might be (and is common) that you solve several AUX chain blocks and have one master-block vouching for the...

Re: Namecoin is Prime for a 51% attack

I think starting merged mining now might solve more problems than it creates. But I do expect further attacks, and I doubt whether the merged mining code is exploit-free. For anyone who wants to start, I've created a version in GitHub, TOTALLY UNTESTED, that starts merged mining immediately: https:/...

Re: Why the name Dot-Bit?

Unless the entire world is about to go and manually configure their network settings and override their DNS settings (unlikely), or install some utility (unlikely), as though that would somehow be easier for the average user than just going to wikileaks.ch (instead of .org) or pokerstars.eu (instea...

Re: Namecoin block explorer

Abe now shows the testnet. I didn't add "native" support due to a collision with Bitcoin testnet's magic number, but I added a config example. I've also implemented network fee deduction from the statistics (coins outstanding and coin-days). With this change, Namecoin's coin-days destroyed ratio ex...

Re: Namecoin block explorer

khal, any info about the explorer implementation? Plans to release source? Is it running on any merged mining chains?

I just added merge-mining support to Abe. Abe however currently lacks NMC-specific features such as coins destroyed. Care to help me add them?

Cheers,
John
