Re: Creating an official namecoin tree ?
I suggest nodemaster :) IMHO we should have at least three persons who are able to release new versions. Perhaps we should as well ask doublec and/or khal? If no one is against I'm willing to take this challenge, but I'd also want to make sure, that I'll only make use of the rights if there is immi...

Re: Reset of my namecoin repository
Hi ! I've done a reset my namecoin repository to have an "official" github fork from vinced tree and to be able to use the "Pull request" feature from github. So, if you still want to watch/fork my repository, you must activate the option again. There are still 2 patches not available on vinced tre...

Re: 51% Attack - Countermeasure Roundup
... I respect your and khal's personal time but would feel safer with another committer or two capable of releasing officialish upgrades in a pinch. ... There are some holes to be filled, especially the "time warp" that doublec has been mentioning. I'd suggest reading up on every weakness mentioned...

Re: 51% Attack - Countermeasure Roundup
You have copies of all the blocks even if there is an attack, so you can always go back to the last block before the attack started. This doesn't help exchanges and merchants who suffer loss in physical goods or other currencies during an attack. Yes, agreed. In the long term we really need more ha...

Re: 51% Attack - Countermeasure Roundup
Sounds like a good exercise in case of future emergency. I would say it's best to wait until evidence of attack before trying to do a fork. This way you don't react to a threat that is never put into action. You have copies of all the blocks even if there is an attack, so you can always go back to t...

Re: Merged mining block number - 19200 - must upgrade
I have a new release here: https://github.com/vinced/namecoin/tree/nc0.3.24.63 This version corrects the timetravel (2015-2016 retarget) bug starting at the first retarget after block 19200. This version will fork testnet at block 4032 (second retarget). I believe we are safe from timetravel with th...

Re: Namecoin is Prime for a 51% attack
I released version nc0.3.24.62 with a corrected lockin patch from makomk. Please test. For now, I suggest we lock in often while we investigate a more permanent solution to the timing attack. We definitely need more hash power too and that should come with merged mining. If an attack starts, we coul...

Re: Testnet Merged Mining Block Number
... A better solution for new chains is to prevent the existence of linked series of aux chain blocks which lack proof of work. You might do that by requiring each aux chain block to refer (perhaps via its own coinbase or a new header field) to the "solution" (target-meeting hash of parent chain bl...

Re: issue: IRC discovery in version 3.24.60
There is an issue with IRC peer discovery in version 3.24.60. Current system randomly sends clients to #namecoin0 to #namecoin99, but there are not enough active users on the network to support so many channels. Thus, many folks are reporting being unable to get any connections at startup. from htt...
