Which is more profitable, bitcoin or namecoin?
First I thought namecoin is more profitable, but my calculation shows the opposite.
Using this website
http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator.php
I used 1,000MH/s, and it shows 1.15BTC per day.
Then I used namecoin current difficulty 55882.45237847, and the same 1,000MH/s, and it shows 18.00 namecoins per day.
Now, the BTC to NC exchange rate is 0.05BTC per 1 NC.
So, it would take 20NC to get 1BTC.
Therefore, mining BTC directly will give you 1.15BTC per day,
but if you mine NC, you will get 18NC per day, but after the exchange, you will get 18NC/20 = 0.9BTC.
Am I correct? or is something wrong here?

It does appear to be fairly even between BTC and NMC mining now. I ran a few empirical tests and either one or the other came out on top.
Bitparking seems to be very stable now, which helps a lot. I solo'd for 36 hours with 3.2 Ghash/s and got nothing, so I'm better off in a pool.

My previous findings were based on NMC = 0.06. It has now halved in value, and BTC has increased in value, so it is now more profitable to mine BTC

If you do short term exchanges, then, switch to which is more profitable at them moment. If you prefer long term exchange, it's more difficult to say :p.

Re: Which is more profitable, bitcoin or namecoin?
in long term i think is absolutely unpredictable.
from one side after 50000 blocks domain cost will be 0.01, based on current conversion rate it's close to zero in USD.
I think that it's unbelievable domain price. It's allow register thousands of domains with minimal expenses
From other side - 50000 blocks means 2,5 millinons of NMC, let even 1 million of them will be destroyed before it( i'm optimist ). 1.5 mil NMC allows to register 150 millions of domains. For comparison .com have only 95 active domains now. So Market will have too many namecoins and i'm not sure that will be allow to support high exchange rate.
Personaly i bet on increase price after 25000 - 28000 blocks found.
Unfortunatelly, as we see, most miners goes there where profit more in short term. and namecoin mining drop down after last complexety increase.

That means it runs at the moment on ca. 7% of the difficult from bitcoins.
Am I right?

Re: Which is more profitable, bitcoin or namecoin?
now mined 735100 of ~21 millions. ~3%
After 2.5m ( ~12% ) domain cost will reach minimum cost of 0.01 NMC

Re: Which is more profitable, bitcoin or namecoin?
Wrong, there is no minimum cost. It will depreciate exponentially to zero. See comment from "vinced" here http://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php? ... 8&start=10mogadanez wrote:now mined 735100 of ~21 millions. ~3%
